Established in 1974, we offer a wide range of English language courses for all levels from beginners to advanced. We also offer exam preparation courses, business English and much more. Courses at Oxford House College are available all year round and students can start most courses any Monday.

Our long experience in teaching students with different English levels will give you the best opportunity to practise and improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, and your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. We select them for their professional ability and personal qualities. We offer many kinds of English language course, for all levels from beginner to advanced including the following: 

- General English Language Courses:
You will have practice in the four main language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The main focus of our General English courses is on developing speaking and listening skills, and increasing vocabulary. The aim of the course is to help you to use English effectively in general, everyday situations, such as at the post office, out shopping, at the train station, or at the bank.

When you start your course, we will test your current knowledge of English, to make sure you are placed in a group at the right level. There are 6 General English levels, from A1 on the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework for modern languages (Beginner) to C1 (Advanced). It normally takes around 180 classroom hours to complete a level and move on to the next one.

- Intensive English Language Courses:
With our 30 lesson per week Intensive English programme [ 6 lessons per day] you will study general English with a choice of separate options. These will include extra conversation and pronunciation practice, exam preparation, [IELTS and Cambridge] or business English.

- English Language Exam Preparation Courses:
IELTS: The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an examination that tests your English ability in academic contexts.

Cambridge Exams:  FCE (First Certificate in English), CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) & CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English).

- University / Academic English Language Preparation Courses:
For students with an upper-intermediate level of English or higher we recommend our English for IELTS course. Many UK universities require prospective overseas students to take the IELTS examination. This course will help you prepare thoroughly for IELTS, and our experienced tutors will offer you the highest possible degree of support and advice.

If your present level of English is more limited, one of our University Foundation Degree courses will provide you with the general and academic English skills you will need to live in the UK and to study at university with confidence.

- 1-to-1 / Private English Language Classes:
1-to-1 courses are suitable for all levels of English and you can combine them with any other course.

- English Language Conversation and Pronunciation Classes:
Our English for conversation and pronunciation courses are designed for students who want to express themselves more fluently and clearly in spoken English. Courses last up to 12 weeks, and each week can be taken as an independent unit.
