Lewis & Clark College:
Lewis & Clark is a private nationally regarded liberal arts institution of higher education. It is known for its global outlook, close student-faculty relationship, and service to the community; it is proud of its distinguished teachers, performers, researchers and alumni. We are located in Portland, Oregon, on the west Coast of the US. Our Academic English Studies (AES) program offers full-time (18-20 hours per week) English instruction for low-intermediate through advanced English language students. Students come to Lewis & Clark from all kinds of backgrounds, but they have one thing in common: they're among the best, brightest, most intellectually curious young people in the world. International students are a vital part of our community and add to Lewis & Clark's distinctive international character. We welcome the diversity that students with international backgrounds bring to our campus.
Lewis & Clark College is dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research, and to preparing students for effective and meaningful participation in public and private life.
Our staff works to keep you safe, engaged, aware, healthy, and active. That’s why, among our many services, we have counseling, student health, and health and wellness services, as well as a dedicated team to help you find the right place to live on campus.
Intensive English (ESL) Program. The program offers full-time (18-20 hours per week) instruction for low-intermediate through advanced English language students. The curriculum is designed to assist students in the development of essential language skills, appropriate learning strategies, and the cross-cultural awareness and sensitivities considered necessary for successful completion of their undergraduate or graduate studies.

Akin Multicultural Hall:
In an age when citizens of all countries must look beyond their borders to the world at large, the Multicultural hall brings together students from different cultures to live with and learn from each other. This hall provides great opportunities for students who have studied or plan to study abroad, for U.S. students who live abroad (TCKs), for international students who want to share experiences with US students, and for students who wish to speak a language they already know or are learning. A ratio of 60% U.S. and 40% international students is preferred.
At Lewis & Clark, you’re given the opportunity and freedom to chart your own experience while being supported by a dynamic community.
In other words, you’re both independent and interdependent—you can take a hike along Tryon Creek, or be part of the unique community that is the Co-op. Bop with wild abandon in your room, and choreograph a group performance in the Platteau's student-run dance studio. Lay down tracks in the Electronic Music Center and broadcast your favorite songs as a DJ on KLC, “Portland’s last bastion of rock & roll.” Get in shape in the gym, and then blow some minds on your favorite intramural team.
Whether you’re into the outdoors, community service, intramural sports, leadership, or spiritual and religious activities, there’s a way for you to get involved outside the classroom. The Office of Student Activities oversees the numerous clubs and organizations on campus, from Ultimate Frisbee to Hillel to the A Cappella Union.
