Lyceum English Language Australia is a nationally recognised language school for adults located in Melbourne, Victoria, Eastern Australia. We focus on friendly small group lessons, native speaking teachers and a welcoming environment. At Lyceum English Language Australia students learn English using the highly successful communicative method. We have been teaching languages since 1991, and with such a wealth of experience, Lyceum offers excellence. National and State recognition of the courses we teach is organised through government bodies including the Office of Training and Tertiary Education, the Australian Qualifications Framework Advisory Board, and the Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority. Lyceum is an active member of the Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET). Our courses in English are also approved by the Department of Education.

Teachers and Students:As an ESL (English as a Second Language) student, learning English or improving your English language skills will almost certainly enhance your professional, social and academic prospects and mobility. At Lyceum we have a full range of ESL classes to suit every learner level. Students of all English language levels have chosen Lyceum's ESL courses to improve their English language skills for academic, professional, creative and social purposes.
Students are encouraged to speak with fluency and accuracy as well as develop the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. The classes are theme based to provide practice in a meaningful context which can be extended outside the classroom. Small class sizes ensure that our friendly and professional teachers (all of whom are native English language speakers) are able to deal with each individual student's unique needs.
Lyceum's objective in our English language short courses is to provide ESL students with the opportunity to master the language skills necessary for working, travelling and living in Australia and all other countries where English is a widely spoken language. Lyceum's English courses focus on communication activities in functional and situational contexts.
Levels: Elementary to Advanced
Course Duration: 2 - 52 weeks (It takes approximately 10 weeks to cover one level.)
Enrolments: 2 weeks minimum or more weeks depending on your visa. Students can start on any Monday.
Hours: 20 hours in small class groups.
Placement Test: Students will be given a comprehensive written and oral placement test on their first day to find the most suitable class for them.
Objectives: General English Short Courses provide students with the opportunity to master the language skills for working and living in Australia.

General English courses focus on communication activities in functional and situational contexts. Materials:
Materials include text books, audio-visual materials, and authentic texts such as newspapers.

* The appropriate text will be advised and distributed at the commencement of study depending on placement test results.
* Students will need to pay for higher level texts in the Just Right series as they progress.
IELTS Exam Preparation:
IELTS is an internationally recognised English language proficiency test. It is used for entry into tertiary studies and for vocational purposes.
At Lyceum students are introduced to IELTS exams throughout every level of their General English course and are given the opportubity for pratice at IELTS tests each week. The goal is to give students an introduction to the IELTS test format and teach strategies for sitting the test.

Methodology:
Our introduction to IELTS will give an overview of each of the four modules of the IELTS test, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Students will learn what can be expected in the test, strategies for approaching the test, short exercises and a practice test in one of the four skills each week.
