Tilden Preparatory School:
Tilden Preparatory School in Albany (10 miles from San Francisco), Alameda County, is a private, accredited, college preparatory school for grades 6-12. Tilden uses a tutorial style to teach curriculum one-to-one and in small groups. One-to-one teaching provides a tremendous opportunity for students to work at their own pace (either faster or slower than usual), with attention to their style of learning, and to maximize opportunities for them to pursue their areas of interest in greater depth. Group class opportunities complement the one-to-one classes so that students have the option and benefit of both learning environments.

About Tilden:
Tilden Preparatory School is a full-time school for many students, and also offers a part-time program for students enrolled in another school. In addition to teaching courses one-to-one and/or in small groups, we also use a mastery learning approach, working with students to achieve 80% mastery of the course material (or higher) in order to insure success in the current course and when taking the next level or similar course.

Follow-up surveys of students who have graduated from Tilden Preparatory School and now attend college indicate that in their first semester after graduation, they have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher in college. Students who have taken AP courses at Tilden during the 2008-9 school year achieved an average score of 3.75 on their AP exams, with two-thirds of the students achieving either a 4 or 5 on their exams.

AP Courses:
Tilden Prep offers more AP course options than most high schools, so that highly academic students have the opportunity to pursue as many areas of interest as they wish in greater depth, while students who prefer a more leisurely pace can take the time needed to fully understand the course material before moving on.
