Carlow can boast of its great range of sporting facilities, including a public Swimming Pool, Bowling Centre, Tennis Club, Rugby, Hurling, Gaelic & Athletic Clubs. Cruising, Rowing and Canoeing are very popular on the Rivers Barrow and Slaney. Nestled in sleepy nooks along these rivers as they meander through the countryside are some of the most beautiful country towns and villages in Ireland.
There are also a number of fine riding stables in the county. Carlow is a golfer’s paradise too! There is an impressive variety of golfing facilities to suit all levels, including several 18 hole courses, a 9 hole course, a par 3 course and golf range. There are also a number of pitch and putt courses.
Irish music and dance have always been a part of Irish life and, at English Language Ireland, we incorporate these into our Leisure Programme. Students learn basic Irish dance steps and participate in regular ceilidhs (irish dance evenings). Traditional Irish Music sessions are available on different evenings in the local hotels and pubs.
Carlow’s Cineplex shows all new release films, while theatrical, musical and choral groups are showcased regularly.
Walking and cycling are fun ways to enjoy the great outdoors and take in the beautiful scenery of Carlow and its surrounding counties. Carlow is home to some of Ireland’s key national walking routes – the Leinster Way, the Wicklow Way and the (riverside) Barrow Way.
County Carlow with its rich Celtic past is steeped in historical and archaeological artefacts, including many castles and field monuments.
