Admission to boarding schools in New York State: Private boarding middle school for boys & girls in Upstate New York, elementary boarding school in Essex County NY. Junior boarding school in north-eastern NY for international students, residential education in USA.
North Country School: Located in Lake Placid, Essex County, New York, North County School is a junior co-educational boarding and day school offering a traditional curriculum for children in Grades 4-9.
With its emphasis on progressive education, the school is also successful with gifted students and children with different learning styles. North Country is primarily boarding, but does enroll day students and five-day boarders.
We offer full boarding (including weekends) and 5-day boarding. North Country School has no dormitories. Instead, groups of no more than 12 children live in houses under the supervision of caring faculty houseparents, some of whom have families of their own.
Each student has a roommate of the same gender and age, but each house group typically includes boys and girls in different grades from various backgrounds, cultures, and religions.
Seen as one of the great strengths of the program, the resulting mix of students resembles different-aged siblings and helps each house become a true home away from home—a place of safety, where every child belongs.
Day students are assigned to houses, so they, too, can share in the intimacy of the house group.
The house is the center for much of students’ living and learning experiences at NCS, with houseparents piecing together the many dimensions of each child’s growth.

Situated in Houghton, Allegany County in western NY state, Houghton Academy is a Christian boarding and day school enrolling students in Grades 6-12.
Most boarding students at Houghton Academy live in one of the two residence halls. Both dorms offer a secure, traditional residential setting. Two students most often share a room, there are shared common areas for relaxation and recreation, and the buildings are staffed by full-time employees.
An alternative to or traditional dorms is found in three Staff Houses we own close to school. These homes serve as the full-time, traditional residences of our employees families, but each house has been configured to accommodate students.

Located in Rhinebeck in Upstate New York, The Astor Learning Center (ALC) is a therapeutic boarding school for boys and girls ages 5-13 with serious behavioral and emotional difficulties. Our residential programs are designed to provide a nurturing environment for children who must live away from their families while they receive treatment.
Established in 1980, ALC has been named three times as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Our students benefit from small class sizes (6-8 students) in a nurturing environment conducive to learning. We aim to help children who have often experienced failure in school to finally succeed.
In our Residential Treatment programs, we treat a wide range of behavioral and mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and fire setting behaviors.
At ALC, we welcome children from throughout New York State. Some of our students come from as far as Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk Co.), Albany, and many other areas of NY.
The Stony Brook School, located in Stony Brook (50 miles East of NYC), on the beautiful north shore of Long Island, New York, is a college preparatory, co-educational boarding and day school for grades 7-12.
SBS is home to approximately 180 boarders every year. Our desire is for our students to learn and grow as they live together in a safe and comfortable community. There are currently 7 single-gender residential halls that house our boarding students and approximately 14 to 15 faculty families.
Students are trained to be leaders with integrity and virtue. The Stony Brook School offers an academic program that is challenging, comprehensive, and that recognizes the interconnected-ness of academic disciplines. Students are encouraged to ask questions, to think independently, and to write well.
