Swim Classes in Philadelphia, PA
GPAC Swim School, Greater Philadelphia & South Jersey:
Established in 2009, The Greater Philadelphia Aquatic Club (GPAC) Swim School provides group swim classes and private lessons to young children (ages 4+) from the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey area. Our swim classes are held at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell, NJ. Our aim is to help young children of all swimming abilities to become more familiar around water and more proficient with their swimming skills. Our swim lessons are offered in a group format and we keep our class sizes small with no more than four swimmers per instructor.
Swim Lessons for Kids Ages 4+
Group Swim Classes:
Our lesson instructors will be following a detailed lesson plan and will be required to give parents/guardians progress updates throughout the course of the session. Instructors are available for brief questions for five minutes before and after each lesson.
Level 1 Goals:
- Begin to develop water safety skills.
- Become comfortable in the water without assistance.
- Begin to learn basic swimming skills including floating and kicking.
Level 2 Goals:
- Continue to develop water safety skills.
- Begin to develop proper technique for both freestyle and backstroke.
Level 3 Goals:
- Further development of freestyle and backstroke as well as the introduction of butterfly.
- Successfully complete NJ State Deep Water Test (25 yards of controlled freestyle swim followed by treading water for 2 minutes).
Level 4 Goals:
- Further development of freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and introduction of breaststroke.
- Begin acclimation to deep water (deeper than 6 feet).
Each child will have to achieve all requirements of their current level before moving to the next level. It is entirely possible that a child will have to remain in a level for more than one session in order to accomplish all objectives of that level.
Private / Semi-Private Swim Instruction:
Private and semi-private swim lessons are scheduled by the instructor and family at their mutual convenience. Private classes are booked in blocks of 6 x 30 minute lessons.

Imagine Swimming, for children ages 12-months to 12-years, was founded in 2002 by former world-class swimmers Casey Barrett and Lars Merseburg. Originally operated out of the Hunter College pool on 69th Street and Park Avenue, the school has grown to nine New York locations - extending from TriBeCa to the Upper East Side, Brooklyn Heights to Chelsea. Imagine is now the most popular swimming program in lower Manhattan, with the BMCC pool in TriBeCa its flagship facility. Currently, the school welcomes over 1200 students each week to its pools. Widely recognized in the swimming community as one of the world's top aquatic educations, Imagine has become a destination for international swimmers eager to pass along their skills as elite instructors. Like many of the city’s top preschools, Imagine has absorbed the teachings of Reggio Emilia, the Italian educational philosophy that places great respect on children’s imaginations and their interaction with the natural world. We feel this philosophy may be best expressed in the water – where every sense is engaged and the opportunities for exploration are endless.
The University of Pennsylvania's Startalk Intensive Urdu Language High School Summer Program is held at the university's Philadelphia campus, located in University City in the western section of Philadelphia City in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. It is a 3-week program and we have places for 20 students. The program is taught by distinguished Penn faculty members who are experts in their fields.Students will receive official University of Pennsylvania transcripts, 1 credit transferable to any university in the US, will have a head start on gaining advanced proficiency in Urdu, and in many cases students can apply for 1-4 year full college tuition scholarships based on their commitment to studying Urdu. Program includes daily snacks and lunches, and learning materials.
Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and is one of the most critical languages for understanding the Afghanistan-Pakistan region. It is an Indo-European language with influences from Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, and Turkish. This program will provide students with the unique opportunity to study this language before entering college. They will also receive University of Pennsylvania credit for the course.

- A standards–based curriculum, high quality learning materials, and a range of activities & projects are employed to maximize students' acquisition of Urdu linguistic skills.
