The Hollywood Schoolhouse is a private school centrally located in the heart of Hollywood in Los Angeles, serving preschool through to 8th grade. We have been educating children since 1945. The Hollywood Schoolhouse does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, national origin, culture, religion, family structure, sexual orientation, financial resources or disability. The school's close-knit community continues to nurture these students even while providing them the encouragement they need to develop into mature young adults. In a world that does much to promote conformity, our children attend school with a collage of individuals, in a setting that encourages and nurtures appropriate individual expression.

Every time a prospective parent or a visitor spends time on our campus, we hear a consistent message: There’s something special about this place.It comes through in the sense of community and closeness that permeates every relationship here. From teachers to students, from staff to parents, there is a profound, shared sense of mutual caring.

That caring provides a vital underpinning to the education our children experience every day. Teachers, staff and parents believe that each child is special, and that it is love that will develop each child’s gifts and give them an appreciation of their own life and the lives of others.

Teaching Methods:
Using the California State framework as a base, we mix both traditional and progressive teaching methods. Children learn through teacher directed lessons, cooperative learning groups, peer interaction, discussions, hands-on activities, and cross-curricular studies. Children are stimulated to be active critical thinkers.

At the Hollywood Schoolhouse, we address the many types of learners: intrapersonal, interpersonal, spatial, kinesthetic, musical, verbal/linguistic, naturalist/existentialist, and logical / mathematical. Our staff members teach to the multiple intelligences of our students by providing a variety of multi-modality learning experiences and assessment tools. Children learn most effectively when given the proper guidance and are made to feel comfortable to take risks in their learning environment.

There is a lot of talk these days in the educational community about “hidden curriculum,” the unstated cultural and social norms that students learn along side their formal training. These are the values they absorb while attending school that, along with what they learn at home, help to shape their approach to life.

At The Hollywood Schoolhouse, we see a “hidden curriculum” that teaches our children to embrace their individuality, to do and be their best. It is a curriculum that teaches children to respect others and to enjoy and be curious about their world.

Our Faculty:
A well-trained, caring and enthusiastic faculty teaches students with a passion for teaching. Staff members are invigorated and inspired by the young people they influence. The close connection between the students, their families, and the teachers is the heart of the Hollywood Schoolhouse community. Staff members believe in the development of the whole child and in the enormous benefit of interdisciplinary, project-based learning.

Community is an important concept at the Hollywood Schoolhouse. Our school has been in the area since 1945 and has been a vital part of the Hollywood revitalization. Whether it is helping build a community garden, creating an after-school at-risk youth program or hosting neighborhood meetings, the Schoolhouse remains committed to strong community ties.
