Educational Philosophy
Thinking outside the box is a well known expressing used to help develop critical thinking skills and challenge individual potential. McKinsey has taken this concept and incorporated it into our philosophy of teaching. We have developed programs to encourage learning, have trained our teacher to teach, and have helped our students to learn “outside the book”.
Approach
Course materials have been chosen and uniquely developed to make learning fun and practical. Instruction is primarily task-based focusing on the use of authentic language, and on students doing meaningful tasks using the target language; for example, visiting the doctor, conducting an interview, or calling customer services for help. The benefits of this approach are in 1) being student focused, 2) allowing for more meaningful communication, 3) developing fluency, and 4) building student confidence.
At the core of MIC’s English Program is its teaching staff. McKinsey requires, as a minimum, that all instructors have a university degree and a recognized certification in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). Many instructors also have numerous years of teaching experience both in Canada and overseas, and can speak a second or third language.
Academic Counselling
Multilingual staff counsellors are available to provide guidance and advice to students on many important issues such as choosing the best courses of study, finding a suitable internship, applying for visas, or integrating into Canadian life.
