Delphi Academy of Chicago:
Delphi Academy of Chicago is an independent, co-educational, non-sectarian day school that offers a preschool through to eighth grade program. The campus is located in Lombard, just 30 miles west of Chicago. Delphi Academy of Chicago is one of several schools in the Delphi Schools Network, a group of independent schools sharing uniquely developed curriculum and teaching methods. Academics focus on providing students with a solid grounding in the basics, a rich and challenging hands-on curriculum and the ability to study purposefully and independently.
Give young people a rich academic background, a strong sense of ethics and a broad range of abilities to successfully launch then into higher education, a career and life itself. More broadly, help build a better world through effective education.
Our Philosophy:
Our philosophy of education is simple. Students should master their basic tools very well, then learn to really use what they learn. Our teaching and study methods emphasize practical application, because only in meaningful use can one work out the proper value of the many pieces of knowledge encountered in an education. This approach keeps our students continually evaluating new information in relation to the real world. Their educations become something they build and own, not something piled onto them. In the end, we want to see our students maintain their individuality, while being self-motivated, confident, active and purposeful individuals who are capable of pursuing and reaching their chosen goals.

Imagine a school your child didn't want to leave at the end of the day—where learning was a joy and studying an exciting adventure. Imagine a faculty that knew enough about study and learning to create a school environment like that. Suppose that as the young child became a mature student this sensible approach to study and learning became a working and natural part of his or her approach to not only school but life.
And imagine there was a way to recognize when the student had gotten off track in his or her studies and both the teacher and the student knew exactly what to do to turn that around? Imagine, instead of plowing ahead year after year amid a mass of confusion and boredom, this student became more bright, more eager and more confident, rather than less.
Imagine things going so right in school that when a student finally graduated from high school, that student was enthusiastic, competent and truly prepared to tackle learning for the rest of his or her life.
We use an integrated approach. Students delve into a wide variety of academic subjects that have been presented in a way that both parallels and accesses the real world. No subject is isolated, and all subjects require the student to engage in explorative, hands-on activities, both inside and outside of the classroom. At the lower levels, this hands-on approach can be found in the many field trips students take, in the "projects" they tackle, and in the emphasis throughout the day on practical activities. In the Elementary and Middle Schools, "projects" become more involved and field trips are often more extended. Middle School students can even take on apprenticeships, allowing them to align their academic work towards their own goals and areas of interest.
Getting out to observe or interact with the world outside Delphi is a big part of the program. In the classrooms, students are encouraged to connect what they are studying with the real world. Field trips help them to make that connection even more real. Middle School students generally take one to two field trips every month.
