Kerry Fiddles:
Kerry Fiddles, situated in the beautiful County Kerry in south west Ireland, teach week long classes (mornings only) in Traditional Irish Fiddle for adults. Afternoons are free to explore this, the most beautiful part of Ireland. In the evenings we will go to sessions and gigs when available.
Complete Beginner:
Fiddle playing from scratch.. You will be playing a simple tune by the end of the week. Don't believe anyone who tells you that you should have started young, that you need a special gift, or that the fiddle is impossibly hard to play. These urban myths stop so many from getting so much! Short regular practice is all it really takes, a lot of listening to your favourite players and a bit of time... But that's not time spent waiting till you're 'good', it's time spent learning to enjoy where you are at every given moment - an approach which can have profound knock-on effects on all areas of your life.
Intermediates/Classical Converts
Rhythms, ornamentation, session etiquette. If you can play a few simple polkas and jigs this would be a good course for you.
We’ll be teaching you new tunes and simple ornamentation and we’ll show you how to get the most out of your practice time. There’ll be lots of listening and mimicry and so-called ‘mistakes’ will be actively welcomed. We’ll spend some time on technique too, to find the easiest way to get the sound that you want and we’ll help fill in any ‘pot holes’ we may come across! Great emphasis is given to steady, relaxed, rhythmical playing and all tunes taught by ear are recorded (though sheet music will be available for those who want it).
