Waldemar H. de Boer is a Dutch art historian, specialized in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art, Italian art literature and 19th and early 20th century art auctions. With a background as a researcher at the Dutch University Institute for Art History and as a Renaissance art teacher at the Institute at Palazzo Rucellai, there is no other way to present him than as a true art history expert.

During his first visit to Florence in 1996, Waldemar fell in love with this stunning city, covered with incredible art works. A couple of years later, he made the big decision to move to the Renaissance capital of the world, together with his wife.

Nowadays, he enjoys sharing his passion for Florence by offering art history courses. Next to that, he executes research projects and writing commissions with great profoundness, diligence and enthusiasm.

For the past ten years, Waldemar H. de Boer has executed art history research in libraries and archives in Berlin, London, Paris, Florence, Venice, Rome and many other Italian and European cities. A perfect knowledge of the Italian language in combination with the know-how of the bureaucratic library systems, serve him well to conduct research in Italy on all fields of specialization, with an emphasis on provenance investigations.

Our expert has contributed articles and entries to the Italian art dictionary La pittura in Europa. Il Dizionario dei Pittori (Milan 2002) and the important art history periodicals Paragone / Arte and Arte Veneta. His well received PhD. thesis Marco Boschini, I gioieli pittoreschi. Waldemar H. de Boer’s PhD. Thesis Marco Boschini, I gioieli pittoreschi. Virtuoso ornamento della città di Vicenza (1676). Edizione critica illustrata con annotazioni is now available. This substantial work will enlighten the reader about the high quality of Renaissance and Baroque paintings in Vicenza and will clarify what art treasures have been lost since the 17th century. The publication has recently been presented by the Accademia Olimpica in Vicenza.
