Preprimary (ages 2-1/2 to 6):
The basic areas of experience in a preprimary classroom are practical life, sensorial, math, language and cultural. Children work at their own pace with self-correcting materials. These didactic materials progress incrementally in difficulty, move from the concrete to the abstract and function as additional teachers in the classroom. The children choose, with guidance which works they will do. This “freedom within limits” fosters independence and responsibility. Respect for self, others and the environment is a guiding principle in the Montessori environment. Social development is encouraged by allowing children to interact spontaneously while respecting the rights of others. In the multi-aged classroom the young child looks to the older child for guidance, both socially and in the academic arena, which in turn gives the older child a high level of self-esteem and a sense of responsibility.

Elementary (ages 6 to 12):
The elementary class is a community of learners grouped into the lower elementary, ages six to nine years, and the upper elementary ages nine to twelve. Children build on their preprimary foundation moving toward abstract reasoning, developing a moral sense, and striving enthusiastically to learn about the natural and social world.

The Montessori elementary curriculum provides unlimited opportunities for exploration of interdependent study areas, including mathematics, geometry, grammar, reading, history, geography, earth science, zoology, botany, art, science and music. The schedule is designed with large blocks of uninterrupted time to allow for interdisciplinary connections of knowledge.

Physical Education:
Students are taught the importance of physical fitness and encouraged to achieve their individual potential.

Foreign Language:
Spanish is taught to the students

Music Program:

RMS offers an exceptional music program that includes instruction in playing instruments, singing and musical notation.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd:
RMS offers a Montessori religious formation program. It is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an “atrium”, a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful material they can use. They are introduced to the articles of the eucharist, the baptismal signs and teachings from the Bible including the Good Shepherd, the infancy narratives and the parables of the Kingdom.
