General English:
A General English Course will help you develop your knowledge of the language and your ability to use it for a variety of purposes. Your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation should improve together with the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing, all in a setting that will broaden your knowledge of British culture. Our current General English Courses are at the following levels: Beginners, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Pre-Advanced.

We adapt our courses according to our students’ needs, and these vary according to the composition of the class (and the time of year). Our lower level classes at the moment tend to need a substantial element of Everyday English, while many of those at the Upper-Intermediate level are preparing for the IELTS exam. Some of our current Pre-Advanced students are very interested in Business English and Academic Writing, and so these are components of their course.

Intensive English:
The Intensive General English Course provides further training for students who want to progress more quickly – ideally they should be moving up a level after 6 - 8 weeks.

After studying General English in the morning, students study language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) more intensively in the afternoon.

IELTS with General English:
IELTS Course - your passport to a place at a British university! This course prepares learners for IELTS, an exam which acts as a gateway to entering British universities. Our course focuses on providing learners with the academic skills they need to succeed. These skills relate to listening, reading, writing and speaking. Support is also provided in acquiring exam techniques.

After studying at Spinnaker College, you can take the exam in Portsmouth. Over one million candidates take the IELTS exam each year. IELTS is recognized by more than 6,000 institutions in 120 countries.

* Classes to develop listening skills
In these classes, students use a wide variety of motivating materials to practise listening skills at different levels, such as listening to get the main idea and listening for specific details.

* Classes to develop speaking skills
In these classes, students practise language useful for everyday conversations and engage in motivating communicative activities, useful for real life situations. Support is provided with vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. Students develop the fluency, accuracy and complexity of their speech.

* Classes to develop reading skills
In these classes, students use a wide variety of motivating materials to practise reading skills at different levels, such as skimming and scanning, overviewing, search reading, as well as reading for detail. Reading for pleasure is encouraged through the use of reading boxes.

* Classes to develop writing skills
In these classes, students learn how to write a wide variety of texts, including stories, letters, application forms and essays, according to their level and needs. There is a focus on the process
