Master of Arts in Intercultural Conflict Management (MA-ICM) degree programme:

We are proud to offer our Master of Arts in Intercultural Conflict Management (MA-ICM) degree programme. This international programme is taught in English and is designed to bring students together from a variety of backgrounds and cultures to facilitate cross-cultural learning experiences. It is a full-time course and takes three semesters to complete. The M.A. programme is a response to the challenges of conflict, cultural diversity, forced and voluntary migration, violations of human rights and human exploitation.

This programme is a three semestral Masters of Arts by research through thesis and comprises up to the total of 90 credits according the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) to be assigned.

Based on the core modules of Intercultural Communication, International Human Rights Law, Conflict Management, International Relations and Research Methods, it qualifies for social advocacy work in its multiple forms found in such professional roles as field officer, programme or project manager, facilitator, trainer, social advocate or researcher.

Blended Learning:
The programme is designed as to what is called blended or hybrid learning, that is the overall course structure consists of a two-phase online or e-learning as well as off-line study or attendance period which allows flexibility for our students. That means you have to be resident in Berlin for the time of the two-month-lasting attendance period at the beginning of the first and second semester. During the online-period you are required to have access to the internet but you will not necessarily have to stay in Berlin.

For whom is the MA-ICM programme of most interest?

The M.A. programme will be of most interest to individuals who are professionally active or have an academic interest in environments characterised by cultural diversity and conflict. These elements are frequently encountered in multi-ethnic contexts where competing group interests exist and where individuals have regulatory/control responsibilities requiring additional intercultural competence and mediation abilities.

Where might graduates find jobs?
There are many opportunities for pursuing a career in the field of Intercultural Conflict Management in both the public and private sectors. Apparently, some organisations have lately started to show specific interest in hiring intercultural conflict managers, but still many will be interested in someone who has these abilities in addition to the requirements of a more conventional job description and qualifications gained through previous education and work experience. Opportunities include jobs in relevant areas through professional roles, for instance, as field officers, managers, facilitators, trainers, administrators, advocates or researchers in national and international governmental, non-governmental and private sector organisations.

Non-Degree Learning Option:

The MA-ICM programme provides opportunity for selected participants to enrol in modules of their choice. This may be attractive if you are a person who wish to improve or gain new skills in a specific area of intercultural conflict management related to your job. You are welcome to apply for a maximum number of three modules per semester.

As a module student, you will learn with degree students of the programme. The average weekly workload varies depending on the module chosen between appr. 5 and 10 hrs. per week. Upon the successful completion of a module, you are awarded a certificate.
