The Florence Art Studio:
Learn the fundamentals of drawing and painting from life with The Florence Art Studio! Located in the center of the historic city of Florence - the birthplace of the Renaissance - we provide short art courses taught in English to international students from around the world. Available year-round and in summer, you can choose to study for 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks or longer. Our customized art courses are suitable for artists of all levels - from basic beginner through to advanced. Learn at your own pace with intensive individual training and one on one instruction.
Intensive Art Program - Taught in EnglishThis intensive program is divided into six discrete modules that teach life drawing & painting skills. Each module serves as the foundation for the next.
You can study each module for one week to one month or longer. Under the guidance of your instructor, you will work at your own pace. On completion of a module, you can choose to progress to the next level.
Each module can also be taken as a stand-alone course, and study from one week to a month or longer.

Each module builds on the skills and techniques learned in the preceding module.
• Bargue Drawing
This module provides an excellent introduction to drawing concepts and techniques. You will rapidly develop your drawing skills and improve your accuracy.
• Cast DrawingThis module teaches you fundamental skills in preparation for portraiture by using classical sculpture.
• Freehand Cast Drawing
In this module, you will draw casts using proportional relationships freehand in charcoal or pencil with modeling techniques that are appropriate to the drawing medium.
• Portrait and Figure Drawing
Using pencil, chalks and charcoal, you develop proficiency in drawing the human form from life using the sight-size method. You will discuss considerations such as composition, lighting the figure, and establishing the pose.The average figure pose is two weeks.
• Still Life Painting
Using a step by step approach from the selection of material and set-up, through the final painting, you will create a uniquely individual Still Life.
• Portrait and Figure Painting
In this module, you complete a strong block-in drawing of the model, transfer it to a canvas or panel, execute bozzetti or color studies, then paint the model in oil paint. The average pose is two to four weeks.
