TU Delft Botanical garden
The botanical garden at TU Delft dates from 1917. The garden includes a park-like garden of trees, a glasshouse complex with tropical and subtropical plants, a herb garden and a central garden with a splendid collection of useful and ornamental plants. The garden has its own specialisation as part of the national collection of flora.
Delft Technology Museum
Delft Technology Museum is the museum of Delft University of Technology. It manages the university’s historical collections and provides insight into the history of technology.
The collection of the faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences includes around 200,000 geological items subdivided into dozens of separate collections. The oldest collections date from 1842 when the subjects of mineralogy, crystallography and geology were included in the study to become a mining engineer at the then Delft Academy (TU Delft).
Beijerinck en Kluyver archive
The loft in the building of the department of Biotechnology houses a large number of letters, manuscripts, drawings and microscopes of microbiologists Beijerinck en Kluyver. This 'museum' is not accessible for public, only visiting researchers can get a tour. Dr. Lesley Robertson, guardian of the museum, opens up a part of the collection on the internet.
Delft is a safe, attractive, and historic town with a vibrant student life: outdoor cafes and restaurants that match the student’s budget, fine cinemas. All easy to find and in walking distance. No other student city has so many active student, sport and cultural associations. As Delft is based in the urban west of the Netherlands (Randstad), cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague are all within easy reach. Just take one of the many trains, anytime, as they also run at night.
The Netherlands (or Holland) is a relatively small country, neighbouring Germany, Belgium and across the North Sea the United Kingdom. With a population of over 16 million, it is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Though the national language is Dutch, most adults speak good English and understand German and some French.
