Trinity College School:
Trinity College School is a co-educational, independent boarding & day school located on 100 acres of rolling countryside in picturesque Port Hope, Ontario, just one hour’s drive east of Toronto. Our Senior School (Grade 9-12) includes approximately 450 students, 60% of whom are boarders. Our Junior School includes just over 100 day students from Grade 5 to Grade 8. Established in 1865, TCS is one of Canada's oldest and most respected educational institutions.
Trinity College School's challenging academic programme over four years of high school emphasizes a liberal arts philosophy. Students are engaged equally in the arts and sciences during their first two years of study. In Grade 11 and 12, students begin to specialize and many take Advanced Placement (AP) courses.
Junior School (Grade 5-8):
Students in our Junior School benefit from having specialist teachers in all subject areas, including the arts, physical education and science. A key element of the Grade 5 & 6 learning experience is the development of caring and respectful relationships amongst students and between students and faculty. A structured approach is provided in teaching students organizational and time management skills, and their learning is scaffolded when teaching literacy, numeracy and study skills. There is frequent cross-curricular integration in Grades 5 & 6 and technology is integrated throughout the curriculum as well through the use of iPads.
In the Grade 7 & 8 programme, we build upon the solid foundation developped in our Grade 5 & 6 classes, with an intentional shift of responsibility from the teacher to the student. As our students enter adolescence, faculty members work closely with them to develop skills which will be crucial for success in high school including: organizational and study skills, academic goal setting, guided and independent problem solving and the ability to make ethical decisions. Our teachers exude enthusiasm and competence that inspire students to excel. Curricular and co-curricular programmes encourage students to shift the focus from themselves to the world around them as globally-minded learners who are adept to technology and are flexible, creative and articulate citizens.
