Trinity College School:
Trinity College School is a co-educational, independent boarding & day school located on 100 acres of rolling countryside in picturesque Port Hope, Ontario, just one hour’s drive east of Toronto. Our Senior School (Grade 9-12) includes approximately 450 students, 60% of whom are boarders. Our Junior School includes just over 100 day students from Grade 5 to Grade 8. Established in 1865, TCS is one of Canada's oldest and most respected educational institutions.
To develop habits of the heart and mind for a life of purpose and service.
Trinity College School offers a broad and rigorous curriculum with the ability to concentrate studies in areas of personal interest. At TCS, education is collaborative, rich in discussion, and writing-intensive. We believe that learning is an active process that fosters habits of the heart and mind while challenging all students to communicate effectively and to think both critically and creatively.
Class sizes at TCS are small, ranging from 12 to 20 students. This ensures that each student receives personal attention and the opportunity to develop positive relationships with their teachers. The student-teacher ratio is 8:1.
Trinity College School is proud to be one of only 10 schools in Canada selected by the College Board to offer the innovative Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma, a two-year programme of study for Grade 11 and 12 students that focuses on critical thinking, collaborative problem solving, and research skills in cross-curricular context. The AP Capstone Diploma further enriches Ontario Secondary School Diploma coursework.
Boarding Culture: The house system at TCS provides a close-knit family environment for every student. There are three boys' boarding houses and three girls' boarding houses and each one has its own housemaster, assistant housemaster, and residential assistant. In addition to the camaraderie, students feel a true sense of belonging and a loyalty to their house that remains long after they graduate from the School.
Green Fields: We are located on a picturesque campus situated on 100 acres of land. We boast nine outdoor sports playing fields and a five kilometre cross country trail. With an abundance of natural beauty and space to move, amazing programming opportunities are possible.
Art is Everywhere: At TCS, a high value is placed on artistic expression. Our art programme allows students to realize their own unique creative abilities and talents. Art is created in our new and inspirational art studios. All campus buildings serve as a continuous art gallery - with new students creations, professionally mounted, on exhibit every six weeks.
Food, Glorious Food: We take pride in serving the best food in Canada! Our in-house chef and food services team take time to get to know our students and their dietary needs. The TCS kitchen offers tons of variety and healthy options (and an ice cream bar too), with meals served in the beautiful and historic Osler Hall.
Travel Education: At TCS, Grade 10 students combine history and English while traveling to the Plains of Abraham and Vimy Ridge for a hands-on learning experience. Travel within Canada and Europe allows students to learn first-hand at the actual sites where history was made, making lessons come to life. Experiences from these trips are meaningful and enduring, empowering students to become lifelong learners.
Week Without Walls: During our unique Week Without Walls initiative, classes stop while all Senior School students and faculty go beyond the classroom walls to participate in community service at 50 sites within our local community as well as abroad. At TCS our students don't just talk about service, they live it and learn from it.
Unity in Song: Every morning the entire student body gathers together in chapel and sings. Students say this is a fun and energizing way to start their day and come together as a community. Many of our alumni's favourite memories are of their time spent singing in the TCS chapel.
