When is the best time to come?

Photo of Cooking & Art Holidays in France Each season has its own charm... In Provence people celebrate “la joie de vivre” all over the year.

If you like the sun and the remote nature, the Luberon in Provence is a must. July and August are hot in Provence and on the Côte d’Azur (but... crowded!). It’s the peak season and the time of Art and Music festivals, the time of local exuberant feasts.

From September to November and from March to June weather is very pleasant and places of interest are not crowded. Winter is cold in Provence and cool on the Cote d'Azur.

How do you select the places where we will stay?
We have visited and checked dozens and dozens of B&B's in Provence and on the Cote d'azur. Our selected B&B has a large kitchen with the best equipment appropriated for our classes, beautiful location and charming facilities, including gardens or park and swimming pool. All room must be spacious, pleasantly decorated with modern private bath rooms.

I don't speak ANY French. How will I get along!
Pas de problem! (No problem) All our classes are taught in English. Philippe and Marie-Pierre both speak fluent English, and will help guide you through the idiosyncrasies of French life. They will even teach you a few of the phrases that will help you get along (Philippe wrote Easy French Grammar, a memento of the French grammar for foreigners)

Studio Escalier

Studio Escalier is an independent, private, studio art school and international arts colony, founded in 2001 by Timothy Stotz, Anthony Ryder and Nicole Michelle Tully. We offer intensive art courses to both French and international students in Argenton-Chateau (now Argenton-les-Vallées), a commune in the Deux-Sèvres department in the Poitou-Charentes region of Western France, and drawing programs in Montmartre (18th Arrondissement), Paris. Occasionally, we invite select visiting faculty to offer courses. All course lectures are delivered in English.

Our studio facilities and lectures in Paris, as well as our campus in Argenton-Chateau are not open to the general public. Personal interviews and telephone interviews are not a part of the admissions process. All enrollment and administration is done via the internet.

Our student body has represented 30 different countries, more than 25 major cities worldwide, as well as 35 US states. We enroll anywhere from 25 to 55 students annually, across all programs. The average student age in our intensive courses is 30 years (Approximately 3/4 are age 18-29 & 1/4 are age 30-65), and for our shorter drawing programs & special programs is 44 years.

- December in Paris - Drawing Program 2011: 20 hours life-drawing and 9 daylight hours at the Louvre per week (3-week program)
- Winter at the Lourve 2012 (9-week Drawing Intensive)
