Berlin Brandenburg International School (BBIS) is a private, state-approved, coeducational day and boarding school in Berlin, eastern Germany. Founded in 1990, BBIS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorized by the IB organization in Geneva, Switzerland to teach all four IB programs. The school is also accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA). English is the language of instruction. In August 2008, BBIS Boarding School op
ened its doors to international students from 9th to 12th grades whose families are not moving to Berlin but are internationally minded and intent on offering their children schooling in an international English language academic institution located in the middle of Europe.
BBIS offers the following IB programs to boarding students in 9th to 12th grades: Middle Years Program (MYP), Diploma Program (DP) and Career-related Certificate Program (IBCC). In grade 12 students have the opportunity to receive the IB Diploma or the IB Career-related Certificate.
Classes are small, usually with fewer than 18 students. Specific support is provided for students with special needs and those for whom English is not a first language.
In addition to the academic program, students are given many choices of extracurricular activities, including sailing, basketball, badminton, soccer, and athletics, Drama Club, Instrumental Ensemble and Student Council. The school also offers an English as an Additional Language (EAL) program as well as a strong Physical Education, Performing Arts and Visual Arts programs.
