The Art Hand, Waterford:
The Art Hand is a new art school on the Waterford coast in south-east Ireland that runs intensive and challenging art courses by professional artists and tutors in painting, photography, stained glass, mosaic and more. The Art Hand is located in a spectacular rural landscape on the cliffs near Bunmahon in an area of great natural beauty called the Copper Coast. The Art Hand is a place to make art and to be inspired by the land, sea and sky. Classes are small, the workshop and studio space is well equiped, warm and bright. The courses are aimed at national as well as overseas participants who want to develop their art or who simply want a creative holiday. Accommodation and food can be provided.

Art Courses in Waterford:

Paint the Copper Coast with Patrick Palmer (5 days):
Patrick will bring the participants of this course to some of his favourite locations along the Copper Coast to capture the Land, Sea and Sky in oil paint on canvas or wood panel. From the dramatic cliffs above Kilmurrin cove to the fishing harbour of Dunabrattin, this is an area of spectacular natural beauty. This traditional method of painting is called En Plein Air, a French expression which means “in the open air”, and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors. 

This course offers an exciting opportunity to paint the wonderful light and magical colours of the Irish landscape. Patrick’s experience and positive energy will encourage and inspire all who work with him! The course is best suited for people with some experience of painting. Patrick will adapt the course to suit each person’s ability. The class size will be small so you are sure of individual attention.

Preliminary sketches will be done in pencil, watercolour, acrylic or oil. The scene will be photographed by each student to record the light, colour and detail. These images will be useful for later reference when you work indoors at The Art Hand to finish the paintings. The weather here can also be quite unpredictable so you will need to be prepared to dash indoors!

Patrick will then show you how to transfer your sketches to your canvas or wood panel upon which the paintings will be completed. Patrick is an oil painter and all of these paintings will be done in oil. He will encourage you by advising on the composition and painting techniques so that you will bring home something to be proud of.

The cost for the course is €495 which includes evening meals. Accommodation is not included but can be arranged at a nearby house. Numbers are limited so booking is essential.

The Connacht College of Design is an interior design school that specialises in the Diploma in Professional Interior Design which is offered in various venues throughout Ireland. It is the only course that we offer, so we can concentrate on keeping it fresh and up to date each year.

We are a "school that comes to our students". Avail of Higher Education in Interior Design in your area. We offer upcoming classes in Galway, Castlebar, Sligo, Drogheda and Dundalk. We simply locate a large, safe hotel with excellent conference facilities, and rent this for the school year.

The Diploma in Professional Interior Design course is a combination of lecture, hands-on practical work, and optional field trips. This is a 23 session course consisting of one night per week for 13 weeks in-class lecture/workshop, 6 special design projects to build a portfolio and 4 optional field trips to interior design-oriented venues. Class hours are from 7:30 PM to approximately 10:30 PM. (Some classes will go longer, some are shorter.)
We offer our Diploma in Professional Interior Design course from September to March every year in venues throughout Ireland. Our curriculum covers not only the study and practice of interior design to a professional level, but how to promote and market yourself as an interior designer in a real-world environment.
