Aviation English Programme – ICAO:
The International Civil Aviation Organization has mandated new aviation standards of English proficiency for flight crew members and air traffic controllers starting March 5, 2008.
CEC offers flexible training courses in Aviation English. General-language development in English for Aviation is conducted in small international classes at appropriate language levels, while the specialised training elements are conducted in closed groups that focus on particular specialisations.
Because ICAO has now decreed that the English-language proficiency standard for aircraft operators must be standardised, CEC offers flexibly structured training courses for pilots, air traffic controllers and other aviation professionals adapted to meet the requirements of the ICAO published guidelines. Courses are designed for small groups of trainees to meet the precise requirements of individual sponsors. The structure and content of study programmes will vary depending on the respective training objectives and the language entry level of participants:
Course Includes:
ICAO Aviation English Operational Level 4
The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has decreed that English-language proficiency of pilots and air traffic controllers must be standardised. Accordingly, as of 5 March 2008 Contracting States will be obligated to take steps to ensure that all licensed air traffic control personnel and flight crews involved in flight operations in airspace where the use of the English language is required are proficient in conducting and comprehending radiotelephony and general aviation communications in English.
The objective of the ICAO language-proficiency requirements is to ensure that flight crews and air traffic controllers have sufficient language proficiency in whatever language they use for radiotelephony communications to manage all of the potential communicative needs related to pilot and controller communications. These range from routine phraseologies and communications not encompassed by phraseologies, to non-routine situations and outright emergencies. It is known that pilots and controllers can memorize phraseologies, and phraseologies alone are often insufficient for the task. The ICAO language test for aviation communications therefore extends well beyond simply testing an individual's knowledge of phraseologies.
Military English Programme – STANAG:
Designed to prepare potential NATO staff officers for their roles in the NATO Alliance and for possible UN peacekeeping appointments, CEC Military English courses are both stimulating and wide-ranging in their delivery and content. English language development and active participation in practical course work is encouraged, and is fully supported by authentic discussion, current affairs, written communication and planning activities.
The most popular study programmes related to English for Military Purposes are the NATO STANAG SLP 3 and SLP 4 Certificate courses. Duration of the course is normally 4 - 7 weeks; however, CEC Military English courses can be tailored to meet the precise requirements of particular sponsors. The maximum class size is 10 Officers/SNCOs. Our military English training is concerned with creating an understanding of the functional communication skills necessary for personnel employed in NATO and UN Peacekeeping appointments worldwide. It is therefore suitable for military officers, diplomatic service staff, civil servants, intelligence officers and international security operatives.
Course Includes:
Courses include excursions to professional and cultural places of interest and include presentations on specialised subjects. To date, the CEC military cadre has enjoyed considerable success and courses run year round. A high proportion of students attain creditable passes at SLP 3 and SLP 4 levels, which allows them to subsequently establish themselves in international roles with ease and confidence; indeed, many former trainees are currently serving in NATO and UN appointments. Selected courses are conducted for VIPs and personnel of high rank only.
