TEFL Training International J-TEFL / Preparatory ELT Certificate Course:
This course is for State Qualified Teachers and is 5 days fulltime (9am – 5pm).
* This 40-hour (30 hours face-to-face input sessions and 10 hours guided assignment) course prepares participants to teach EFL to juniors (secondary-level) in recognised schools.
* Entry onto this course is restricted to those who have completed or are in the final year of a PGDE / H.Dip or B.Ed. Those who do not meet this (SQT) requirement will be refused access to the course.
* The J-TEFL is internationally recognised by mutual agreements between ACELS and their counterparts worldwide: British Council (UK), NEAS (Australia), CEA (USA), etc.
* TEFL Training International’s J-TEFL course is designed, updated and delivered by senior EFL professionals from ACELS-accredited EFL schools.
* The maximum number of participants on the course is thirty. It should be anticipated that there will be 25 – 30 participants on each course.
* The TTI J-TEFL is a practical, task-based, learner-centred, interactive, multi-media, group-work focussed course. The input sessions are lively and demonstrative of the TEFL method itself.
* Summer work placement assistance in Ireland / UK and advice on online resources for working internationally is an integral part of the course and follow-on care.
Course Qualification:
This course enfranchises graduates to teach EFL to juniors only in recognised EFL schools. This course does not enfranchise graduates to teach EFL to adults, it is not possible to ‘top up’ or add on to this course in order to enfranchise graduates to teach EFL to adults.
The Supervised Teaching Component (STC):
Upon successful completion of the above course components participants will be issued with a certificate, however graduates should be aware that they are required to undertake and pass a supervised teaching component (STC) as part of the course. This STC must be completed within three years of the receipt of the ‘course’ certificate. The STC normally takes place in the candidate’s first teaching post in a recognised school/institution.
The recognised school / institution is required to provide direction, monitoring and evaluation of the teacher’s performance by their DOS / principal/senior ELT professional who will complete, sign, stamp and return the STC form to the teacher who will copy the form and send that copy to ACELS for full recognition and registration. The preparatory certificate in ELT (SQT) will not be deemed to be complete until this STC component has been completed.
