Boarding Schools in Virginia

1 . Oakland School & Camp Courses / Programs
Oakland School is a small co-ed boarding and day school that enables children who have dyslexia, learning disabilities, or organizational and study skills difficulties to reach their academic and personal potential. Thanks to a success-oriented environment and time-tested methods, hundreds of Oakland students have successfully returned to mainstream education since the school\'s founding in 1950. The school is located on the site of a former plantation in the rolling countryside of central Virginia, just eleven miles east of historic Charlottesville. Oakland's peaceful country setting and nurturing environment allow for truly remarkable learning to occur.
Designed for boys and girls ages 7-14 with learning disabilities, dyslexia or organizational and study skills difficulties. A strong basic skills emphasis is essential to future school success. Each student receives at least one 30-minute period per day of one-to-one instruction. Children with severe reading disabilities often receive additional "one-to-ones" and may spend 2 1/2 to 3 hours daily in intensive reading instruction. Because the ability to read impacts all aspects of education, teaching reading is a specialty at Oakland.
2 . Randolph-Macon Academy Courses / Programs
Randolph-Macon Academy (R-MA), located in Front Royal, VA, is a college-prep boarding school with an Air Force JROTC program. R-MA is one of the premier military schools in the nation, and the only Virginia military school offering Air Force JROTC. Our focus is on college-prep. 100% of our students are accepted to college. Students in grades 6-12 discover their potential and develop better academic and organizational skills. Students receive personal attention in the classroom and in the dorm. They learn positive Christian morals and develop self-discipline through a structured program, administered by teachers and dorm counselors who care deeply about "their" kids. As a small boarding school of 410 students, opportunities abound. Graduating classes average $4 million in college scholarships.
R-MA offers a complete college-prep curriculum (Grades 6-12, co-ed), including Advanced Placement and college-level courses. Students in grades 9-12 participate in Air Force JROTC. Flight lessons available for students 16 years and older. Sports offered at all grade levels. English as a Second Language classes available. Summer: ESL, flight, and courses for high school credit are available during a four-week summer program.
