A division of San Diego State University, the American Language Institute (ALI) provides quality TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) courses to students from around the world. ALI's 4-week, 130-hour TEFL certificate is specifically designed for those with little / or no teaching experience who want to teach English abroad. We provide dedicated global job placement assistance, as well as ongoing support long after the course ends. Over 100 TEFL Certificate graduates have been employed in 38 countries with the help of ALI's job placement assistance program.
4-week day time, 130-hour TEFL Certificate:
This 130-hour certificate program prepares novice instructors to successfully live and teach English overseas. Day time classes meet 9 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
11-week (night-time program):
Night-time classes are Tuesdays / Thursdays 6 pm - 9 pm.
The ALI teaching staff has a broad base of experience in teacher training ranging from Fulbright assignments in Costa Rica, Romania, Japan, and Serbia and Montenegro, to USIA and other seminars in the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. ALI guest lecturers and presenters from SDSU, other California universities and teacher-training institutes, and San Diego community organizations are chosen for the contributions that they can make to teacher training seminars and for their cross-cultural sensitivity.
