School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, University of Nottingham:
The School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, University of Nottingham is located in Nottingham, in Nottinghamshire County in the East Midlands of England (approximately 2 hours north of London). It is the only academic school in the UK to focus specifically on contemporary China, and it is recognised as a national leader in the provision of high quality, discipline-based research and degree programs in this area. We offer a wide range of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level to students from the UK, Europe and around the world. Unlike any other university in the UK, we welcome students who have already studied Mandarin as well as complete beginners; native speakers of Mandarin Chinese are offered a broad range of alternative modules.

Established in recognition of the national and global importance of understanding contemporary change and transformation in China, the School is committed to undertaking and promoting advanced interdisciplinary social sciences research into key aspects of the rapid changes in China.

The China Policy Institute (CPI) is the research centre for the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, set up by the University of Nottingham to expand the knowledge and understanding of contemporary China in the UK, Europe and worldwide, and to analyse its global impact and the critical challenges it faces in its rapid development.

The China Policy Institute works with research centres in China and around the world to produce quality analysis on contemporary China on a broad range of topics in the fields of international relations, economics, business, politics, the environment and society. Our goal is to help build a more informed dialogue between China and the rest of the world. The CPI is the research institute for Nottingham’s School of Contemporary Chinese Studies.

The University of Nottingham provides accommodation which includes both catered and self-catered residences.

- Catered accommodation: Includes a weekly 19-meal package. Available to undergraduates only.
- Self-catered accommodation: Provides facilities for students to prepare their own meals. These are available to both undergraduates and postgraduates.
