The Royal Veterinary College:
The Royal Veterinary College (RVC), located in the borough of Camden, Central London, is a small independent college of the University of London offering fully accredited programs designed to produce practising veterinary surgeons, bioveterinary scientists and veterinary nurses – all with the knowledge and skills to make a significant contribution to animal health and welfare.
BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Sciences:
BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Sciences is a unique blend of the biological sciences relating to animals, the way they work, their health, their diseases and their relationships with humans. You will be taught by an extensive range of scientists and clinicians who are knowledgeable from their own experience of animal disease and research. This means we will cover virtually every aspect of animal biology, management and disease that is likely to interest you.
Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine:
The Veterinary Medicine (BVetMed) programme is a full-time 5 year undergraduate degree programme taught at the Camden and Hawkshead campuses. The revised curriculum is inspired by the LIVE Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. The LIVE centre is one of a kind amongst British veterinary universities; a unique attribute to the Royal Veterinary College. The RVC has taken a fresh look at how to bring together technological change, clinical and scientific progress, and stimulating teaching and learning methods.
Graduate Accelerated BVetMed:
The Graduate Accelerated BVetMed (D102) programme is designed for graduates with a degree in a biological sciences-based subject (minimum upper second class honours). The D102 programme offers a 4 year full-time course in Veterinary Medicine, taught at the Camden and Hawkshead campuses. On successful completion of the introductory graduate year, students will enter the BVetMed course at the start of year three, leading to completion of the BVetMed in a total of four years.
Combined Degree Programme:
The BSc (Hons) / BVetMed Combined Programme is a full-time 6 year undergraduate degree programme taught at our Camden and Hawkshead campuses. The combined degree covers the same subject areas in animal health and disease as the BVetMed programme, but tackles these from a different research-based perspective, which will enrich your understanding of clinical science in later years. It extends the preclinical science required for entry to the clinical years of BVetMed over about 2 1/2 years, allowing more space along the way for attendance at science seminars and events both in the RVC and elsewhere in London.
Veterinary Gateway Programme:
The Gateway programme is a full-time 1 year course predominantly taught at our Camden campus (London), with additional teaching occuring at our Hawkshead campus (Hertfordshire). Successful completion of the programme does not give a qualification in itself, but does lead on to a guaranteed place on our 5 year BVetMed programme. Alternatively, you would be able to apply through UCAS to the Universities of Cambridge, Liverpool, Bristol and Glasgow and be guaranteed an interview for a place on a 5 year clinical veterinary degree.
Foundation Veterinary Nursing:
The Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing is a full-time 3 year programme taught at our Hawkshead campus. Veterinary Nurses work alongside Veterinary Surgeons in order to provide a high standard of care for animals. They normally work within a veterinary surgery or veterinary hospital and are involved in a wide range of care and treatment. Including; providing skilled supportive care for sick animals, undertaking minor surgery, monitoring during anaesthesia, medical treatments and diagnostic tests under veterinary supervision. Veterinary Nurses also play an important role in the education of owners on good standards of animal care.
BSc(Hons) Veterinary Nursing:
The BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing programme is a full-time 4 year degree programme taught at the Hawkshead campus. This exciting course offers you the best of both worlds - a solid grounding in the practical essentials of Veterinary Nursing, and a stimulating exploration of its academic under-pinning and leads to a BSc (Hons) degree of the University of London. As the UK’s only independent veterinary school, we have an established reputation for developing innovative approaches to learning. We will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your chosen profession.
Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Nursing:
The Graduate Diploma in Professional and Clinical Veterinary Nursing is a post-qualification award for professional development and comprises a combination of modular short courses at honours level on the QAA framework for Higher Education Qualifications. When you successfully complete the course you will receive a Graduate Diploma in Professional and Clinical Veterinary Nursing from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London and you will be able to use the post-nominals GradDipVN.
BSc in Veterinary Pathology:
The Veterinary Pathology Programme is a one year intercalated degree option taught at our Hawkshead campus. Pathology, the science of disease, is central to understanding and conduct of veterinary research, clinical medicine and surgery. However, it is of national concern that there are so few professionally trained pathologists to fulfil the ever growing demand for such expertise arising from clinical practice, academics and industry.
BSc in Bioveterinary Sciences:
Students registered for the five year BVetMed degree course may opt to intercalate and gain a BSc (Honours), normally between the Second and Third Years. This can be either in the RVC or in one of the other colleges of the University. The RVC offers a BSc (Hons) in Bioveterinary Sciences (Intercalated). This course features the RVC modules currently offered on the BSc Bioveterinary Sciences third year, and allows students to specialise in areas such as skeletal pathology, locomotion, reproduction & development and animal welfare and epidemiology.
RVC also offers Postgraduate teaching, Research and Scholarship, and Clinical Services to the veterinary profession and general public.
