The Manchester College:
The Manchester College came into existence on 1st August 2008, following the merger of City College Manchester and Manchester College of Arts and Technology (MANCAT). We are renowned for the range, flexibility and availability of the courses we offer, with more than 600 courses at all levels, from basic skills to higher education. We offer certificate, diploma and foundation degree courses in various fields of art and design, including interior design, graphic design, animation, photography, interactive media, video production and fashion industry courses. We also provide training in performing arts with focus on drama, music, acting and musical theatre.
The Manchester College offers adults (aged 19+) a large number of courses that can improve their chances of employment, can lead to promotion in their current job and or help them change direction. Tuition fees for some courses can be waived depending on previous experience and qualifications.

- Contemporary Theatre Practice
This programme aims to give individuals the confidence, motivation and skills to produce high quality and innovative performance work and to act as agents of change and development in the industry. Based in the thriving cultural diversity of Manchester, students develop their critical awareness of the position and function of the performing arts in our society, in addition to professional and business skills. The programme is suitable for those with drama performance skills and a desire for a career in the performing arts, entertainment and cultural industries. Students on this programme create a small-scale theatre company to support their learning process, which also provides excellent opportunities to gain essential marketing and business skills.
- Jewellery and Applied Arts
This course is aimed at individuals who are interested in designing and producing 3D items, such as jewellery and related accessories, in a number of modern and traditional materials. It is a practical workshop-based course with a strong design element.
- Animation
This course is designed to provide budding animators and designers with the skills and experience needed to develop a successful career in the competitive field of animation. It deals with a wide range of contemporary media platforms and formats and is taught by tutors with current and relevant industry experience.
- Photography & Digital Imaging
This course is based exclusively on digital imaging technologies and is designed for individuals who have an interest in investigating digital media from a photographic standpoint. Emphasis is placed upon the development of professional working practices, complementing students' evolving skills as photographers.
- Digital Graphic Design
While this course involves elements of traditional art and design, students also develop software knowledge and application skills using the latest technology. Focus is placed on the development of significant skills coupled with highly creative conceptual design solutions. Subjects covered include: - Ideas development - Digital graphics - Business skills at work - Packaging - Copyright and digital asset management - Art and design applications - Design practices - Creative influences - Advertising
- Video Production and Post-Production
This course provides students with a sound foundation for a range of careers in the video production and post production industry, whilst developing the personal and attitudinal skills essential for success in working and further academic life. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities and the latest industry software to develop and demonstrate production skills. This course is also a progression route for students who have taken National Diplomas in E-media, Film, TV Production, and Multimedia.
- Fashion and Clothing Technology
This course has been designed and developed in partnership with industry leaders to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge employers need for a range of professional careers related to the fashion and textiles industries. Students will also develop the personal skills and attitudes essential for success in working and academic life.
