The key drivers of growth of the global media industry includes proliferation of new technology and markets.
The local media industry, covering broadcasting, cinemas, publishing and printing services, music recording, digital and IT-related content services, had an annual turnover of more than $10 billion, contributing 1.56 per cent to Singapore’s GDP and employing more than 40,000 people.
With a holistic and concerted approach to developing the creative industries in Singapore, the cluster has the potential to contribute 6% of GDP by 2012, which would be comparable to creative cities around the world. The creative industries could potentially employ 5 – 7% of Singapore’s national workforce.
