Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design, London:
The Cass (The Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media and Design) is one of ten departments of London Metropolitan University, and is situated on the East London City fringe, a vibrant area recognised as a centre of excellence for both art and design. This unique environment of commerce, art galleries and design workshops exposes our students to the highest levels of professional practice. The department offers a broad range of full and part-time postgraduate degree courses in art, media and design disciplines. These include Taught MA’s, MA’s By Research, Mphil and Phd. We also offer a three month International Pre-Masters (graduate certificate) course for international students, which combines preparation for postgraduate study in a creative discipline with English Language classes.

Our Staff:

The staff are well known and respected within their specialist areas and our record is one of the strongest in the sector, with art and design scoring an excellent 23 out of 24 in the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) subject review.

Facilities and Resources:

Photo of Art, Media & Design School in LondonAll students can access computing, photographic and reprographic facilities together with specialist technical support. We also have the widest range of specialist facilities in Europe for silversmithing, jewellery, furniture, furnishing and technologies in music. These include CNC, CAD and CAM for work in metal, wood, plastics, and musical instrument manufacture, as well as workshops supporting instrument-making and repair; furniture prototype and batch production; upholstery and soft furnishing; silversmithing, jewellery and allied crafts; and finishing processes for wood and metal. There are studios for graphic design and interior design, drawing, painting, installation and performance-related activity, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, time-based media and 3D. Our laboratories support electronic and acoustic study, materials science and restoration and conservation.

Students benefit from a video studio, professional high definition video cameras, video and editing suites, photography studio and darkrooms, a radio/sound-editing studio and a screening room. The dedicated digital animation studios are equipped with high-definition editing and animation workstations with all the relevant software. Other resources include a blue screen studio, and negotiated access to professional sound studios. We have a strong publications record in youth culture, Hollywood film, and media audiences and mass communications.

Prescott & Mackay offers a unique range of short courses in fashion & accessory design from studios in London, San Francisco, Berkeley, New York and Melbourne. Courses run from beginner to advanced levels, and include shoemaking, bag making, belt making, corsetry, millinery and tutu making. Students can choose between group sessions, and private tuition.

All P&M tutors are among the best in their fields in the world, and many of them are world-renowned designers themselves. The concept for Prescott & Mackay was formulated in 1997 by British founder Melissa Needham, member of the British Footwear Association and Royal Society of the Arts. She recognised a rising passion for shoe and accessory design, yet a distinct lack of provision for those who were unable to attend full time study.

Fashion Antidote is a small independent fashion school and studio based just off Brick Lane in East London. Our emphasis is on teaching fashion related subjects and specialising in courses and workshops on fashion business and how to set up your own company.

The school is located off Brick Lane in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The nearest London Underground Tube Station is Aldgate East Tube on the Hammersmith & City Line between Liverpool Street and Whitechapel, and the District Line between Tower Hill and Whitechapel.

We aim to give students a taste of the real fashion industry. Our studio is also used by fashion designers, pattern cutters, stylists and consultants. You will be given insider information and shown tips and techniques as used in the industry that will save you time and give your work a professional finish.

Classes are small and informal and offer lots of one to one support to help build up your confidence. The atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and sociable. All levels are catered for whether you are an absolute beginner taking the first steps, or already have skills you want to update (a budding fashion student or a fashion professional - we have courses for you).
