The National Qualifications Framework (NQF)

What is TESOL?
As you may already know, TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and encompasses what used to be called TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language).
Generally, TEFL emphasises aspects of teaching English in countries where English is not widely used in daily life, such as Russia, China, France and Brazil. The primary goal of such learners, at least initially, is to be able to use English for travel abroad or for meeting people from other countries or to have English as a part of their broader eduucation.
The term TESL tends to emphasise the needs of learners who will use English in their daily lives, in addition to their mother-tongue. In many countries, such as Zambia and India for example, English is used as an official language in government, in business, in newspapers, TV and radio as well as being the main medium of educational instruction in schools and colleges, as well as universities. As such it would be quite wrong to regard English there as 'foreign' even though it is not the mother-tongue of most people in such countries.
A TESOL qualification such as the TESOL-direct TESOL Certificate (accredited by the College of Teachers) covers all aspects of English teaching and learning, and is suitable for all parts of the world. It provides a solid basis for teachers and for developing personal expertise in a diverse range of English teaching situations. StudyCELTA provides internationally-recognised and accredited University of Cambridge English language teacher training courses in the lively city of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in north-east England. We offer full-time CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) Delta course modules, as well as Erasmus Plus CLIL courses.

St Brelade's College, Jersey
Courses / Programs
• St Brelade’s College is located on the British island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, approximately 20 miles off the French coast and 80 miles south of England. • We are accredited by the British Council and are a member of English UK, along with being a validated course provider of the Trinity College London Cert. TESOL.
• We have been providing English language courses for students from all parts of the world since 1978. In 1989, we ran our first four-week TESOL training course, and have continued to the present day. This is one of the two most widely recognised teaching qualifications (accepted by the British Council and most language schools).
• Our courses are intensive and practical, with the emphasis on hands-on teaching experience, together with tutorials on modern techniques and methodology which can be put into practice in the classroom. Courses run in March and October every year, and are designed for a maximum of 12 participants.

TESOL Training Scotland is dedicated to providing professional development for experienced English language teachers throughout Scotland. We provide a comprehensive online Trinity TESOL Diploma course, with on-site course workshops held in several locations on a rotating basis.
