Our International English Centre offers a Trinity Certificate in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), Professional Development for Teachers of English, and an Undergraduate module in TESOL.
Accredited English Language Teacher Training Courses:
Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Cert.TESOL)This is a professional training course for people who want to teach English as a foreign language in the UK or overseas. The course is validated by Trinity College London, one of the two leading bodies that validate ELT teacher-training courses in the UK. The Trinity certificate is recognised by employers across the world. All applicants must have a good level of spoken and written English. Non-native speakers of English will be accepted with a score equivalent to at least 7.5 IELTS.
Course contents:
- 130 timetabled hours over 25 days (5 weeks)
- Practical and theoretical aspects of English language teaching
- Latest teaching methodologies
- Observation of experienced teachers in the classroom
- Teaching practice
Professional Development for Teachers of English
The Professional Development Course for Teachers of English is designed for international teachers of English, working with students at any level. It is designed to be refreshing and thought-provoking and you will have a balance of input between practical methodology, background issues in ELT, language development, and immersion in British and Celtic Culture.
Course contents:
- 40 contact hours over the 2 week period, and will receive a Certificate at the end of the course.
- Methodology on the course is varied, with group/pair tasks and activities, individual presentations, individual work and short talks by tutors.
- It is also possible to combine courses by joining our English and Communicative Skills classes for a week of English language tuition before or after the Professional Development Course for Teachers of English.
Undergraduate Module in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
This module is designed to provide initial training in teaching English to speakers of other languages, and is valuable for students preparing for a year abroad. It has both a theoretical and a practical basis, and is intended to develop an understanding of issues related to language learning and language acquisition. It is also intended to give practical experience in teaching English as a foreign language.
