St Giles International:
With schools in Brighton, Eastbourne, and London in the south of England, St Giles International was one of the first organisations to offer internationally-recognized training for English language teachers in the UK. Today, our organisation offers teacher training for native and near-native speakers of English. A qualification in TEFL, such as the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) or the Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Cert. TESOL), gives students many opportunities to live and work in the UK and abroad.
English Language Teacher Training Courses:CELTA:
The Cambridge certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) is an internationally recognised initial qualification for English language teaching. Candidates who complete the course successfully can begin working in a variety of ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) teaching contexts around the world.
The full-time CELTA course last four weeks. It is very intensive with a minimum of 120 hours of training. Candidates are required to attend all input sessions, teach classes of the relevant age group and size for a total of 6 hours, observe experienced teachers for a total of 6 hours, and maintain and submit a portfolio of all assessed written work and materials related to teaching practice.
Trinity Certificate in TESOL:
The Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is awarded by Trinity College London, and is recognised by the British Council and by language schools worldwide as a suitable initial qualification for teaching English as a foreign language. Candidates are assessed continuously on their contribution to the course, their teaching practice, their lesson planning and written work, and on a range of assignments including a materials project and a written profile of an individual learner.
The course leading to the Certificate is an intensive, 4-week course (minimum 130 hours), at the end of which candidates will have gained:
- A basic knowledge of the structure and use of English and the means of describing the language
- An introduction to the methodologies and materials for teaching English
- Practical experience of teaching at least two different levels (all trainees get a minimum of 6 hours' teaching practice)
- An internationally recognised qualification leading to job opportunities in the UK and abroad, and an individual report from St Giles on each trainee's progress and achievements
DELTA:
Our St Giles Brighton centre is now also offering Module 1 of the Cambridge DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults) as a part-time evening course. This course is designed for practising teachers who wish to develop their skills. The Cambridge DELTA is an advanced TEFL qualification for practising English Language teachers.
