Located in the lively university city of Bournemouth (less than 2 hours from London) on the south coast of England, Anglo-Continental School of English is an accredited English language school. Anglo-Continental is an approved training centre for the University of Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). We offer 4-week full-time courses and 16-week part-time CELTA Certificate courses. CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults):
The CELTA qualification is the essential qualification for native English teachers entering the English Language Teaching profession and is suitable for students without any previous teaching experience. We offer full-time (4 weeks) and part-time (16 weeks) courses.
Course Content:
Both the full-time and part-time CELTA courses consist of 120 hours of instruction, observation and teaching practice and up to 60 hours of lesson planning, home study and assignment writing. All participants will also be required to observe 6 hours of lessons at Anglo-Continental. The CELTA course covers the basic principles of teaching vocabulary, grammar, phonology, speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as how to correct students’ errors and how to manage the class among many other things.
Language and Methodology of English Teaching Plus Optional Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT/CLIL) Modules:
The core of the language and methodology course consists of 20 lessons per week of language teaching methodology and personal language development. Contexts for language development work will reflect the interests of the group and will include aspects of British life and culture. Participants will experience and explore lively and creative teaching strategies and teaching aids, gaining ideas to refresh their own teaching and developing their own language proficiency.
In addition to the core 20 lessons, you can take an additional 10 afternoon lessons of preparation and practice for the Cambridge University Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) modules 1, 2 and 3.
• Module 1 – Language and background to language learning and teaching
• Module 2 – Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching
• Module 3 – Managing the teaching and learning process
Participants can enrol for all or just one of the modules and the afternoon sessions will provide them with the opportunity to work through material and sample test exercises appropriate to them. These lessons include feedback and guidance from the trainer.
This course aims to give participants greater awareness of the main theories and approaches of CLIL and to encourage analysis of sample activities for the usefulness or adaptability to their own teaching contexts. These additional lessons also provide you with the opportunity to work through typical test activities, followed by feedback and guidance from the trainer.
