Training4TEFL, London:
Training 4 TEFL takes place at the Rose of York English Language School, a British Council-accredited language school ideally located on Hallam Street, 5 minutes walk from Oxford Circus Tube Station in Central London. Training 4 TEFL offers the Trinity CertTESOL Certificate course which is validated by Trinity College London. The course is one of the most widely-recognised professional TEFL qualifications available. Participants who complete the course are fully-qualified to work as an English teacher in any country in the world, including the UK.
Trinity CertTESOL Certificate Course:
The Training 4 TEFL Trinity CertTESOL course is validated by Trinity College London to lead to their widely-recognised TESOL qualification, allowing you to teach English in language schools worldwide, including the UK. The course usually lasts for 4 weeks starting on a Monday and finishing on a Saturday, including 21 days of learning at the school; bank holidays may make courses slightly longer.
You’ll study 9am - 5:30pm on weekdays at the school, and also do assignments during the weekends. Each course has a maximum of 12 trainees, and a maximum of 6 for the teaching practice groups. Courses take place at our established premises at the Rose of York Language School in Central London.
On our course, you get the opportunity to teach your first lesson unassessed – it doesn’t count towards your final grade, unlike on many other Cambridge or Trinity preparation courses – so you can enjoy this first lesson as a positive learning experience.
You will also have the chance to observe our experienced teachers teaching real lessons to their learners. During the course, you’ll receive guidance on how to find work, and benefit from our free reference service after you finish.
Input Sessions:
Input sessions cover both theory of language teaching and the application of this theory. They are interactive, combining workshop activities, pair and groupwork and plenary discussions.
- Classroom management skills
- Structuring lessons and writing lesson plans
- Important areas of grammar that students need to learn, such as different tenses, parts of speech, word order in sentences, etc.
- Areas of pronunciation that learners need to study, such as individual sounds, word stress and intonation in sentences
- The 4 language skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing with practical ideas for activities to practise these skills
- Teaching different types of learners, different levels and different types of class
- Future career options and how to apply for TEFL jobs
During the inputs, you’ll also experience being a language learner yourself, with 4 lessons on a foreign language that you’ve never studied before – this provides you with a very useful insight into the learner’s mind, and their needs.
Teaching Practice:
Teaching practice happens in small groups of usually 3-5 trainees. You’ll each get at least 6 hours practice in total, broken up into 9 or 10 lessons. Because we have an extra day on our course compared to many Trinity TESOL or Cambridge CELTA courses, you will have the opportunity to teach your first lesson unassessed, making it a positive experience and an opportunity to get to know your learners without pressure.
As part of the course, you’ll also observe some of your co-trainees’ lessons, enabling you to see a range of different styles of teaching. You’ll teach a class of real English learners who since they get their lessons for free, are always happy to participate, which takes the pressure off you while you’re learning.
